Vanilla vs. Vanilla

That wonderful and unique flavor we call vanilla, is obtained from a pod which has been massaged and fermented, just before becoming an open orchid. Being grown mostly in Madagascar, Tanzania, or Mexico, will determine much of its flavor profile.

Beyond the flavor of the particular pod, the ingredients and process used to make a vanilla ice cream will produce even greater differences. These are the ones I am looking to witness when comparing the vanilla ice creams flavor of a Van Leeuwen (the scoop on top) to a Häagen Dazs.

The former is not creamier in texture but in taste, and there is a somewhat tangy aftertaste to it. They are differently good.
