“Israel in Egypt”, first known classical music recording — June 29 1888

“Israel in Egypt”, catalogued HWV 54, was composed by Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759) in 1739, and composed that year on April 4th. The oratorio was scored in English for soloists, choir and orchestra, in 46 movements.
