Today I will be in the most magnificent city on this planet. The Metropolitan Opera in New York is playing operas I am not interested in, so I will not be here. Today, mind and ears will be in Vienna.
To my wonderful friends in Vienna, do not try to meet me, for I will be only at the Wiener Staatsoper, and will not be visiting any coffeehouses this time.
“Das Veratene Meer”, from Hans Werner Henze, will be performed. Interestingly enough, the Opera is based on the novel by my beloved Japanese writer, Yukio Mishima. Therefore, with soul I will be in Japan and in Vienna simultaneously.
New York friends, do not worry. I will be sleeping in NYC.
(You too may listen and be transported as well, if you so wish. Feel free to download the Wiener Staatsoper app, and you could be there, too.)
