With a fingertip on glass, or on plastic flat screen, seeing how colors and shapes react, often emulating a cat and a mouse discharging bullets, the twenty-first century toddler shall begin. Long first years it will likely need, before a writing utensil in its hand will make lines that clearly reference millennia-old writings of the same meaning.

Documenting essential history on pocket journals, drawing sensitive emotions through intricate portraits, or singularly protruding a button through a hole on the opposite side of the shirt, the hand has evolved, not for the sake of devolving.

This is the moment in which we persevere with it, for the sake of the hand itself, of the intellect, of the body, and all the immaterial spheres we are.

Remember to read
and most of all
remember to write.
