In circles of families and friends around the globe, individuals have their pastors, priests, rabbis. To these they listen in their respective places of worship, and refer to them explicitly as such whenever in direct conversation with them.
I can only speak of personal experience, and obviously can not speak for the many thousands of pastor’s kids who, like me, had their spiritual leaders in the privacy of their homes on a daily basis while growing up. There is no element of complain in this thought but in retrospect I do realize what an odd state of being that actually is for a child growing up with a biological father who is also the main figure providing religious counsel. In dozens of churches I heard you delivering hundreds of sermons but never listened to you as “my” pastor, and it never crossed my mind to see you as such. You were my father who happened to be a theologian.
