Marius Müller-Westernhagen *XII 6 1948 — Das Leben das Du Gibst / The Life You Give

Marius Müller-Westernhagen, born Marius Hubertus Hans Müller-Westernhagen, December 6 1948 in Düsseldorf, Germany, is the popular singer and performer who made his first move into the entertainment industry via theatre acting and singing courses in Hamburg. He made his television debut in 1964, and has gone on to appear in over 50 movies since. Possibly the most famous of these was his role in 1980's Theo Gegen Den Rest Der Welt. In the meantime he had also provided vocals for a beat band named the Rabbits, and a rock ensemble called Harakiri. These pursuits eventually culminated in the release of a debut solo album in 1975, pursuing a path somewhere between the exploits of his two previous groups. With a fluctuating line-up of sidemen and accomplices who have included Eddie Taylor (saxophone), Simon Crowe (drums), Klaus Voormann (bass), Ian Parker (keyboards) and Dolphin Taylor (drums; of Stiff Little Fingers), Mueller-Westernhagen went on to become arguably Germany's biggest live attraction of the 80s, and was certainly his nation's biggest-selling popular music artist of the period. Empirical evidence of the continued favour he carried with his public came in 1992 when JaJa produced quadruple platinum sales figures. By this time his name had been abbreviated to simply Westernhagen.
