Simple, with Detail

To some, this might come as a surprise but to many likely not: simple is not the equivalent of flat and one-sided superficiality. There are wide ranging subtleties, and often contrasting layers which may all lead to the joy of simplicity — to eye, palate, mind…

This is such a thing. This mashed potatoes were one in Genesis, and a world apart in Exodus.

Having finished my breakfast, I contemplated some small potatoes, as a good possibility for my next warm meal. The thought finished there, and the action began. Doing some work and keeping an eye on the boiling roots.

One thing leading to another, and another being unpredictability, I recalled the nutmeg and milk that Germans traditionally add to their Kartoffelbrei.
